How To Curl My Hair With Straightener – When most of us want curls, we curl them. But a flat iron can also create bouncy (or voluminous, depending on the look you want) curls. Of course, there is a technique. In fact, there are many different straightening techniques for curling, depending on how tight you want your curls to be.
To set the record (completely pun intended), we consulted with Redkn’s global art ambassador, Sam Villa, and hairstylist Sky Kim. They walked us through every step of the way to creating ocean waves, bouncy curls and everything in between, with a flat iron as the tool.

“For the waves at the beach, fortunately, you won’t have to worry about them breaking or hitting you in the face,” says Kim. “It’s one of the simpler versions of the flat iron.” When it comes to creating bouncy beach curls, there are two methods these top stylists adopt.
Ways To Straighten Your Hair Naturally At Home
Bouncy curls are all about lift and bounce. Kim suggests using OuaiVolume Spray ($26) before drying, followed by Christophe Robin Hydrating Leave-In Mist Aloe Vera ($39).
“Be careful with compression,” explains Willa. “Elapsed time is when heat is applied to an area and compression is pressure applied to heat.”
According to Kim, there are two ways this could happen. “You can reproduce ocean waves [C-curl method], but make the ‘C’ shape wider, curlier, and rounder at the ends.” Also, use the following technique to get more variation in the wave.
Willa says get a straightener if you have time. She explains: “A quick push with a curling iron adds a fresh and modern look. “Grab a few pieces organically and bang the iron when you come back. It’s five-second style.”

Vary the direction you curl your hair to add dimension and texture. “It’s easy, but it looks like you just walked out of the living room,” says Willa. He suggests wrapping the excess cable around your arm so the iron rests on your hand; We also like to throw things off the counter a little less often.
The classic look of Old Hollywood (or modern Kim Kardashian), the S-wave is sleek, stylish, and massive. There are two ways to create this retro look with a flat iron.
For tighter waves, Villa suggests creating alternating “C” shapes in the hair. She explains: “Starting at the side of the head an inch away from the hairline, pinch the hair with your fingers and push it towards the hairline to create a ‘C’ shape. “Hold still. Hold the iron horizontally, press ‘C’ three or four times.” Attach the clip to the center of the “C” and start again an inch below the clip, this time twisting the hair in the opposite direction to create a “C” shape in the back. Continue this technique down the yarn and over the top, alternating directions.
She explains about the hair section. “Press the straightener gently into the hair to create a continuous ‘S’ shape from root to tip,” she explains. “You can also do it from head to toe. It will create nice, effortless waves, and depending on the width of the curves, it can be looser or tighter.”

The great thing about using a straightener compared to a straightener is that the straightener can straighten your hair. In that sense, it’s almost like having two tools in one. Also, depending on how it’s used, you can create a variety of waves and curls from the tool (as opposed to a curling iron, which will create waves depending on the size of the barrel).

You don’t need an expensive flat iron to create these beautiful curls. I mean it would be great to have a GDH or Dyson slider, but anything less will do the trick. The slider I use is from Remington and costs about $45.
The only thing your flat iron needs to create curls is to have a round bar so your hair can slide around with ease.
I’ve listed some of my analog rectifiers below with a few different prices. Mine is no longer available, but I still don’t recommend it because your hand keeps pressing on the heat switch when you use it and it’s always very hot. But Remington as a brand matches the price and it’s my second iron!
Thermal protection is very important! The hair conditioner I use (linked in the prep) protects my hair from heat, but I don’t evenly apply it to my hair, so I like to use a spray so I don’t damage my hair.
