How To Care For Coily Hair: Using Two Strand Twists To Grow Long, Healthy Natural Hair!!

Two-strand twists are an easy and beautiful protective style with an added bonus: they help keep moisture out. While straight twists work well on a variety of textures, two-strand twists generally work best on full natural hair because the ends usually stay together without the added help of strips or barrels. Twists can also be combined with other styles such as braids and afros.

We want you to consider trying again. We asked stylists Larry Sims and Ebony Bomani for their expert-approved guide to two-strand twists, from the benefits of protective styling to how to maintain twist styles on natural hair. Plus, we’ll show you how to master the style yourself.

Twists, commonly called double strand twists, are hairstyles created by twisting two sections of hair around each other end to end. Pieces of hair can be from large to small.

“Two-strand twists are one of my favorite styles for naturals,” says Sims. “They’re lightweight, don’t put pressure on the hair and require zero heat.” Bomani agrees: “[Two-strand twists] help hair retain moisture longer and stay tangle-free. A low-maintenance hairstyle relaxes hair. Less breakage.”

With all these benefits, we can see why two-way curls are highly rated by hair professionals and naturals alike. Two-strand twists are a great protective style because you can leave them in for days or weeks. If you want to leave it for a while, you can comb and style your hair during the twist. By the way, curls work well in combination with other natural styles. The front part of the hair can be curled into a crown, and the remaining lengths can be left in a two-strand twist. You can also get creative with the same set of twists by creating a high braid, big braid or ponytail, or a simple bun. There are many styling options that can be used with this hairstyle. Also, when you’re tired of leaving your hair curly, take it down and you’ll still have it

It’s important to start any style with a clean, moisturized base. “When preparing for a two-strand twist, make sure to moisturize and detangle the hair well to prevent future twists and breakage,” says Bomani.

Wash your hair with a moisturizing shampoo and then follow with a deep conditioning treatment. After cleansing and conditioning, dry your hair with a microfiber towel. Sims recommends using a pencil and then applying a cream or oil (or both) to lock in moisture. Then the hair can be stretched to the roots and divided into sections.

First, decide how big you want your curve to be; The smaller the curve, the more definition you have when removing the style. After getting it down to curl size, take that section of hair and add curling cream.

You’ll need to experiment with different products to get the final look and style you want, until you find your tried and true favorites. A good amount of hold helps curls keep their shape without fraying or bouncing too quickly, but avoid sticky, heavy gels.

Take your part of the roll and divide it in half. One of the most important things to remember when creating your curves is to start with two equal segments. If one segment is thicker and/or longer than the other, you cannot make a smooth curve along the length of that segment. You have to “borrow” from another segment, which operates in an uneven mode.

Fold each part over the other, moving to the end. Don’t forget to pull your hair back from your face.

You don’t need to add extensions when creating curls, but if you want a longer and fuller style, synthetic hair extensions are your best bet – giving you the ability to create curly styles like Senegalese or Marley curls. You can also add dyed hair extensions if you want to create a different look.

Make sure you sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase to help protect your curls at night. “After a few days, your curls start to dry out,” says hairstylist Sarah Sango. “Sprinkle each twist with a small amount of water. This will revitalize existing products in your hair. If you feel your hair needs more product, add accordingly.”

Although this is a simple hairstyle, not everyone gets it right the first (or fifth) time. It may take more practice, paying particular attention to the shape of each piece you turn; As long as you make sure that each section is the same, your results will be consistent. You may need to experiment with products to find what works best for you. Either way, you will have the curve of your dreams. Recently, the question I get asked the most when I’m out and about is, “How do you keep your hair like that?” I knew it was a question. Ironically, I get the most questions from other women with natural hair. I find that most women I meet can’t find the right tools or hairstyles for their hair. Both of these things take time and money, but once you find what works for you, it’s easy sailing from there!

Depending on the day, month, and season, how “big” my hair gets changes, which is fine with me, most of the time. Fortunately, I can count on the curl pattern to be the same if I follow the tips you’ve been given here. Best of all, by following these steps I’ve turned the dreaded “bath day” into a mini nap activity! I said “No!” I hear that. from the other side of the screen. Seriously, it’s true! 😉

Here’s how I did the two-thread twist! The double strand twist is a great style for long locks for both women and men. I’ll show you two easy-to-follow twist tutorials:

Easy And Tasteful Protective Hairstyles For Natural Hair

When I start a real style, I always co-wash my hair. In other words, I always wash my hair with conditioner. This helps retain moisture. Shampooing removes important nutrients from your hair and it is very difficult to get them back. My natural hair is a testament to what I put in and out of my body. For me, it’s good food, lots of water, and great natural products. (Not hair dye. Nothing natural about my color, I’m a light brown person.)

I find that if I let my hair dry a bit before I style it, it looks a lot better in the end. If you have thick hair like I do, this will make your final style look amazing. Also, try to wash and style your hair in the afternoon instead of at night. You want to dry your hair as much as possible, and that’s hard to do when you’re sleeping with freshly curled, wet hair.

These are some of the products I use and I will be using them for this makeup.

After your hair is slightly dry, you need to divide it into four parts. You can do this by creating a T shape in your hair. I prefer a side part over a middle part. So after making my t-shirt, I usually bring in a lot of wigs. After removing your hair, it is important to part the hair the way you want it.

Take some coconut oil (or whatever basic moisturizer you use on your hair) and rub it into the palm of your hand. After scrubbing, you’ll want to rub your hands over the ingrown hairs and then gently remove them. At this point you can use a wide tooth comb to gently detangle, but I always recommend using them if your hands can handle it. Natural hair thrives when left alone and not pulled or tugged too hard.

Then take a small section of hair and divide it into two parts. Get tips on styling products. In my case – mousse and swirl pudding. Take your fingertips and brush your hair from root to tip, then start rolling.

If you’re trying to create a more defined curl style, you’ll always want to try adding little twists to your hair. If you have thick hair and big curves, they will definitely come through
