How Do They Put On Eyelash Extensions – I always crave luscious, full lashes. My natural lashes are quite average – sliding the mascara on is very difficult for me, but it definitely takes a lot of effort. When more celebrities started wearing eyelash extensions, I was intrigued by the process. There are so many horror stories when it comes to the service, so I hesitated to check it out.
I finally decided to try it a month before the many events and parties I planned to attend. I went to Yuel Lash Beauty in San Francisco – the technician who owns the business is the Sugarlash PRO brand ambassador and the product brand they used on me for our session. I dread my appointment; I didn’t know what to expect. Fortunately, Yuel was incredibly nice and explained everything he did.
How Do They Put On Eyelash Extensions
I went for a classic set of eyelash extensions, but Yuel suggested I try volume eyelash extensions. A classic set is when only one extension is attached to each natural eyelash. It adds length and thickness and is great for those who already have ample lashes. Volume lashes are a new and more innovative technique where multiple extensions are attached to one lash to give it more dimension and texture. They give a more complete look and require more skills. Technicians often create custom fans of multiple lashes to put on each hair — you can have anywhere from two to six extensions per natural lash, depending on how fancy you want to go.
Do Eyelash Extensions Work On Straight Lashes?
For my particular lashes, Yuel attached two or three extensions to each natural lash. I want thicker eyelashes, but I don’t want people to be distracted when they look at my face. For the entire set, it took about two hours to complete the look. I lay down on a comfortable bed-like pillow while Yuel sat behind me. I closed my eyes and he put a silicone pad under my eyes to keep the bottom lashes from coming out. I felt almost nothing when they applied the extensions; I can feel it brushing every time. This is a painless procedure – you still have to lie.
When it was over I could hear it when I looked in the mirror. I thought the amount of lash extensions complemented my eyes and looked incredibly natural. Think of me as instantly obsessed. Lashes last about three weeks – I’m on my second week now and they still look amazing. In fact, I made an appointment for fillings because I can’t imagine living without them now.
If you’re thinking about getting extensions, it’s important to have all the information you need before you make your first appointment. Let’s break down the pros and cons for you.
The extensions are better than any mascara I’ve ever used. When I wake up in the morning, I put on foundation and blush – and that’s it. I love that my eyes look beautiful 24/7, and I get an extra five minutes of sleep every day.
The Ultimate Guide To Lash Extensions — Lash Lovers
I’m always “done” when I have lashes, I look polished wherever I am. I can run errands without makeup or go to the office with a full face and confidence no matter what.
Compared to the classic set, the volume of eyelashes looks really realistic. Light and thin extensions are so effortless to wear that they look perfect up close. My friends can’t get over how real they are.
I was lucky enough to have a technician trained in extensions – she was a complete expert and used the best products and tools possible. Just because you got a good price on extensions doesn’t mean it’s a deal you should do; Cheaper services may use less material. Find technicians associated with brands you trust.
Because of the precision required and the extension gauge used, eyelash volume is obviously more expensive. You’re paying for a good result, so in my opinion, it’s worth it.
Diy Eyelash Extensions Using Individual False Lashes
Yuel gave me a special eyelash cleaner with silicone curls that I use every night. I clean my eyelashes and brush them to look fanned. If you are lazy and skip your grooming routine, your eyes may look puffy or your eyelashes may stick together. Actually, keeping them is not a big deal. I make this part of my routine when I wash my face.
Overall, I had an incredibly positive experience getting volume eyelash extensions. And I’ll be back again. I love how they make me feel and how long they save me. If you’re on the fence, I recommend you give them a try.

Celebrity Scarlett Johansson Calls Out Ex-Husband Ryan Reynolds: “He’s a Nice Guy” by Chanel Vargas 1 week ago If it looks like all your friends have grown eyelashes, the movie actor-not yet. that’s just lash extension. If all the amazing mascara formulas, lash lifters, and false lash options on the market aren’t giving you enough of a boost, extensions might be the answer for you. As with any beauty treatment, it’s important to do your research before booking your treatment. We spoke with celebrity lash expert and founder of Envious Lashes in NYC, Clementina Richardson, to share everything you need to know about eyelash extensions, how long they last, and what you can expect to pay.
What Are Volume Lash Extensions?
“Lash extensions are semi-permanent synthetic, faux mink or silk fibers that are threaded onto your natural lashes,” Richardson explains. As you might expect, the app is pretty boring. “The extensions are carefully applied individually using a specially formulated semi-permanent adhesive that will not irritate or damage the natural lashes,” she adds.
Unlike false eyelashes, where strips or individual eyelashes are applied to the skin, eyelash extensions are attached directly to the eyelashes. The results are lusher, thicker lashes that can (gasp) skip the mascara.
The final look is to enhance your natural lashes with more length, fullness and lift. It’s up to the client whether this look is more dramatic or more natural, but in general, the more lashes applied, the more dramatic the effect. According to Richardson, a typical treatment involves 80-140 individual extensions per eye, with lashes 6-18mm long. “It’s not one size fits all,” he explains. “For example, if you have damaged eyelashes or weak and short natural eyelashes, it is not always possible to achieve a more dramatic look than a client with strong and thick eyelashes can achieve.”
The bad news? Expect the treatment to last anywhere from one to two hours, depending on the look you want. The good news? You can use it as an excuse to sleep, rest, and relax on your phone.
Everything You Need To Know Before Getting Eyelash Extensions
Richardson remembers that good whip technicians take their time. “Safety should be your number one concern. Finding someone who is certified to apply lashes is important. Depending on the state, the stylist may also need to be licensed,” she advises.
Prices vary by location, technician and final appearance. At Envious Lashes, the starter set is $105, and “bombshells”—Richardson’s celebrity clients like Mary J. Blige’s favorite—go for more than $550. Longer lashes are a time and financial commitment and can cost thousands of dollars a year depending on how often you get them filled.
Avoid water for the first day or until the glue is completely dry. Treat your new lashes with TLC—don’t curl them, slather on mascara, or rub your eyes. In general, avoid anything that requires touching your lashes and stay away from oil-based products and cleansers. Mascara can be applied to the ends of the eyelashes if you want, but it is better to leave it completely. After all, your new lashes should be dramatic enough on their own.
Because the extensions are attached to the eyelashes, they last as long as the natural growth cycle, or about six weeks. To extend the life of the extensions, Richardson recommends using an eyelash conditioner (yes, there is one!) It’s also recommended to get “refills” every two to three weeks to fill in any sparse areas.
